ET´S Locro and Bautismo!
This week was probably one of the craziest weeks ever. The Argentine Independence Day is 25 de Mayo and for every holiday they eat Locro (Locro is a hearty thick stew made of corn, beans, and potato or pumpkin. It's one of the national dishes of Argentina, Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador.).
Our ward had an activity planned for the 25 de Mayo and as we were talking with our ward mission leader he said that it would help animate the ward if we could have a baptism that day and we knew exactly who we could baptize. We went and taught them but they were missing a few lessons and so we decided to focus in on them this week and finished teaching them. On the 24th we were on an intercambio with the district leaders, who are also the zone leaders (my brain can’t remember the word in English for intercambio) and we got a call from the other elders, we ignored it, and then two minutes later another. Three seconds later a text message. And about 3 minutes later another call. We had no idea what was going on and so Elder Morre, our Zone leader, decided that we should answer it. It was the assistants’ and they said that there were a ton of emergency transfers in our zone. This almost made it so that we could not do the interview but we were able to. One of the emergency transfers was Elder Glenn was sent down to the Coast as a zone leader there instead of here. Elder Morre got another companion named Elder Perrez from Mexico. All of these changes happened about a week and a half before the transfers.
The next day we ate
Locro and had an awesome baptism with a lot of people there including a few
investigators. We baptized two kids named Facundo and Valentina. We have plans
to work harder this week and help more people.
One crazy experience that I had this week was I gave a blessing
to a recent convert who learned he has cancer. In that blessing I had
phrases come to my mind that I would never have thought that I could say and
others that I wanted to say but could not say. What was cool is that he
said that he felt the Holy Ghost comforting him more than he has ever felt.
Also, he was having trouble sleeping and he told us that he has not had trouble
sleeping since.
I don’t have a lot of time left but I wanted to say I know that this is the true church. Nephi put it best when he said "y ahora bien amados hermanos míos esta es la senda y no hay otro camino ni nombre dado debajo de los cielos por lo cual el Hombre puede salvarse el el reigno de Dios"
Love you guys!
Elder Cahoon
